The Glory of God

By Yonazi Charles.

We most certainly have come across this phrase in several places in the Bible.
Revelation 14:6,7 says "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting
gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue,
and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His
judgement is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of
waters."
In 1 Corinthians 10:31, the Bible tells us "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do,
do all to the glory of God."
John 11:40 says "Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldest believe, thou
shouldest see the glory of God?"
Isaiah 60:1 says "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee."
In Romans 3:23 we read "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
Habakkuk 2:14 says "For all the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God, as
the waters covers the sea."
Isaiah 58:8; "Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth
speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward."
So what exactly is the glory of God? How are we to give glory to God?
We get our answer from the inspired writings of the Spirit of Prophecy.
The prophet says, "Through trial and persecution, the glory - the character of God - is revealed in
His chosen ones..." CC 360.6
The prophet equates the glory of God to His character. With this concept in mind, lets review the
the texts again:
- The first angel's message in Revelation 14 simply tells us to Fear God and reveal His character!
That is the only way to avoid receiving the mark of the beast! Reveal the character of God in your
life. And this must be perfected before probation closes. Once the Sunday law is passed, it will be
too late for Seventh-day Adventists to begin this process.
- In 1 Corinthians 10:31, we are instructed to reveal the character of God in our eating, drinking and
whatsoever we do! That includes in diet, dress, speech, associations and relationships, businesses,
education, recreation, hobbies, walking, even the expression of the countenance; through all must
the character of God be revealed!
- In John 11:40, Jesus was telling Martha that if only she believed, God was ready to reveal His
character of compassion, sympathy and mercy in resurrecting Lazarus.
- Isaiah 60:1 instructs us to Arise and shine, for God has provided strength and ability through His
grace for us to reveal His character to the world!
- Romans 3:23 tells us that in sinning we fail to reveal the character of God, for God cannot sin. It is
only in living a perfectly sinless life by His grace that we can reveal His character. And this must
happen before being translated into heaven. Jesus will only come take a bunch of mirrors; only
those who reflect His image fully at His coming.
- Habakkuk 2:14 assures us that the now widely prevailing ignorance of this world's inhabitants
about God and His dealings with men, will one day be wiped away; every living being will
understand the true character of God as revealed in His Word.
- Lastly, as Isaiah 58:8 says, the character of God is imprinted in men as a reward; the result of
entire submission to God and willingness to do His every will.
The big question is, Are you giving glory to God? Are you revealing His character? If not, the good
news is that it's not yet too late! Humbly submit yourself to God and ask for divine power from
above to enable you to reveal His character in your life. It is only by divine strength can this be
accomplished. May this be our daily prayer until the Second Coming, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
